There’s a great selection of not-so-obvious tearjerkers to be found amongst the classics. The excellent & sadly no longer with us Clifford T Ward ("Home Thoughts From Abroad"), wooing his lady from afar with the immortal line "I’ve been reading Browning, Keats and William Wordsworth". Clifford knew the way to a woman’s heart…straight through her bookcase.

There’s brilliant weepies such as "Crazy" from Willie Nelson, the awesome Walker Brothers’ "No Regrets", Dorothy Moore’s sublime "Misty Blue" & the lovely "Stardust" from Nat ‘King’ Cole. Then there are some beautiful soul songs to sob to, from the ‘greats’, Al Green, Otis Redding, Alexander O'Neal & Cherrelle, Jimmy Ruffin, Earth, Wind & Fire and the gorgeous "Tracks Of My Tears" from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

In times of misery, George Michael rarely fails the ladeez and the soothing voices of Eva Cassidy, Katie Melua ("Lilac Wine"), KT Tunstall ("Other Side Of The World") and the underrated Kelly Rowland with "Stole", will prop you up through tricky times. Other great sad songs come from the likes of Elvis Costello, Frankie Valli, Roxy Music, Hall & Oates, Foreigner, Kenny Rogers, Duran Duran, Joe Cocker, Alison Moyet, Peggy Lee and many more.
